Puppy Mill Survivor“Issy” - 4 year old French BulldogPhoto by Marian Brickner![]() I met my new family through French Bulldog Rescue Network where my “Mom” is a volunteer. I was surrendered by my previous owner due to cluster seizures and severe allergies. This was now my 4th home in 4 years. The woman that surrendered me to the rescue loved me, but could not afford my medical care. Prior to that, I was owned by two backyard breeders who knew nothing about breeding healthy dogs. A dog like me, with neurological conditions, should never be bred. Luckily, I had a false pregnancy and was not able to breed.
The underlying cause of my seizures has not been diagnosed, but the vet says it could be from my past abuse. All I wanted was a home to call my own, where no one was concerned with my inability to make puppies. I’ve been spayed and I’m now on a regular medical regimen of allergy meds, as well as twice daily doses of phenobarbital. I have been seizure free since February! All I needed was a home where someone would love me and make sure my medical needs were addressed. I am the apple of my Mom’s eye now and I’m a very happy dog. I will live out the rest of my life in a home where I am cherished for all I am! Read more about other Puppy Mill Survivors and Missouri's Puppy Mill Problem. |
